CrossFit Essendon – Driving Fitness

CrossFit training methodology is simple yet highly effective; “Constantly varied, functional movements performed at high intensity.” CrossFit training was created by Greg Glassman in 2000 and has since then become an international phenomenon.  Because CrossFit programming is based on functional movements, it has a direct transference into real life situations. Learning correct and safe movement patterns is integral to long term health and gives us opportunities to remain strong for life. CrossFit training is composed of the 10 domains of fitness; strength, speed, stamina, cardiovascular endurance, flexibility, accuracy, balance, power and coordination. During any given workout there may be any combination of these training domains and over time create ‘fitness.’ Fitness is not only about being able to run far or about lifting heavy weights, but to have a good spread of ability across all fitness domains.

At Driving Fitness we provide semi private CrossFit classes with a difference. Because our classes are caped at 5 people, you will receive regular coaching and feedback. We pride ourselves on giving quality coaching advice and believe in correct technique across all movements. Participants are only allowed to progress in exercises once their technique is deemed adequate and consistent. Our coaches also include a physiotherapist who has experience in CrossFit training methodology and lifting technique. You are in safe hands at Driving Fitness!

How does a CrossFit Essendon class run?

Each class begins with a 5-10 minute warm up specific to the workout at hand, this may include mobility and flexibility exercises, muscle activation and cardiorespiratory exercises. We then go through 1-2 movements with the class and explain technique, progressions and cues. We come around to each person in the class to assess these movements. The first half of the workout is usually dedicated to strength and technique and may include a combination of squatting, deadlifts, overhead pressing, pull ups, gymnastics work including handstand progressions and ring work and olympic lifting progressions.

The last half of the workout is known at the METCON (metabolic conditioning) and is designed to get you working hard! This may include any combination of burpees, kettle bell swings, box jumps, running, step ups, squats, sit ups, wall balls, lunges, overhead pressing and much much more. The beauty about CrossFit workouts is that they are never the same, so your chances of becoming bored are close to 0! The class concludes with a cool down and some stretches. All classes run for 1 hour so you have plenty of time to concentrate on what you are doing and ask questions. Check out our timetable by clicking here.

Our classes cater for the general fitness enthusiast looking to improve their health, to the serious athlete looking to compete. If you are a beginner to CrossFit we will work with you slowly and give you all the instruction and assistance you require to perform safe and effective movements. CrossFit training methodology is a highly effective way to improve fitness and unlike any other gym in Australia we provide classes with a full capacity of 5 people. We are here to help you on your fitness journey, if you have any question regarding training at Driving Fitness please call for your introductory offer of 1 free class followed by a 2 week trial at a discounted price.

Here is what some of our clients have to say about our services.

Morris Ruberto – Client Testimonial

What a fantastic opportunity to build strength and get fit with a gentleman who is incredibly knowledgeable. Mark is motivational, encouraging, supportive and an all round top guy. The environment is fantastic – small groups where everyone gets Mark’s attention. And it’s so encouraging that other participants encourage and congratulate each other. Mark focuses on technique – as Mark is a Physiotherapist this is critical. This is without question the best experience I’ve had – and I look forward to working with Mark to achieve the results I am looking for!

Christine Grace – Client Testimonial
